Course To Boost Systematic Preparations Of Accounts

Wednesday 10 March 2010, Bandar Seri Begawan Nineteen participants representing 13 cooperatives and six Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are currently attending a course in accounting that aims to expose them to an organised and systematic preparation of accounts.

Organised by Brunei Industrial Development Agency (BINA) and Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR), the course, facilitated by Cooperative Officer Masri Hj Durahim, which began March 4 and runs until 16 at the Lecture Room, Cooperative Section, BINA.

The Cooperative Officer said that the course would also enable treasurers, accounting clerks, auditors and managers of cooperatives and SMEs to prepare accounting books that are accurate and up-to-date and enable participants to prepare systematic final accounts.

He said participants would be learning accounting definitions, objectives, supporting documents to enable them to prepare proper and systematic cash book, general ledger, sales book, purchase book, personnel ledger and petty cash book to enhance sales and productivity.

"They would also be knowledgeable on final account such as trial balance, trading account, profit and loss account, distribution of surplus account, balance sheet and others." During the course, the participants would also be going for a study visit to Koperasi BKSS Berhad on Friday, March 13. When interviewed, the participants said so far the course has been very beneficial to them in their bid to enhance productivity and product quality towards increasing sales and profits.

They hoped that they could undergo further courses in accounting as they found it to be very beneficial. "Perhaps we can visit successful cooperatives in other countries to learn the way they prepare good accounts for their establishments," they added. ~ Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
